“It’s not that simple!”, you will say. It is, and there are highly successful examples from the mechanical engineering sector, such as the compressor industry, which have implemented the change to a performance-based model highly profitably and with benefits for all involved.
Yes, but … comparing compressors with pumps is like comparing apples with oranges. With compressors, the medium (air) is well known and controllable and the influence of the system on the machine is also kept within limits. Thus, the wear and tear and thus the repair costs and risks of a “subscription model” are controllable.
You’re right! Offering pumps as a service poses far more challenges. The responsibility for the total cost of ownership of your pump is partly transferred to you as the manufacturer. You will probably also have to guarantee availability in your offer. And this with uncertainties about how your customers operate the pumps, how well the pump has been dimensioned for the application, at which duty point the pump is operated and how often wear parts such as mechanical seals and roller bearings have to be replaced in the application.

Discover the vibDOT as part of the new DOT platform! Cost-efficient and scalable
In our product packages, our previous measurement technology platform BeMoS one is combined with suitable sensors and components to monitor a wide range of potential causes of faults on rotating equipment.
The DOT platform’s advanced ultrasonic measurement technology makes it possible: space- and energy-saving, as well as cost-efficient and scalable.
Installed directly on the pump, there will be several variants of the DOT that record different measurement data. This information is then sent to the control room, for example, and can also be accessed directly via a web app. In order to also be able to offer mechanical seal monitoring via this new platform, the sealDOT will follow the vibDOT next.
